Education, participation, action and science are the foundations on which Instep Carbon & Sustainability Programmes have been established. Our step-by-step scientific process will educate and guide you through your programme enabling you to understand and maximise its benefits.

Instep programmes provides you with the knowledge to monitor and manage your carbon emission profile. Our regular personalised reports give you a full summary of your carbon emissions over selected periods, with recommendations and measures to reduce your emissions. Instep does not lock its business partners into offsetting, as we believe that your individual action is the key to sustainable development.

Instep offers 3 programmes to suit your needs.

A. Instep Carbon & Sustainability Programme

The basic Instep carbon footprint programme follows the internationally accepted WRI Greenhouse Gas Protocol methods with country specific emission factors. Programmes are designed to be completed over a 12 month period after which you gain full certification. The Carbon & Sustainability programme is suitable for businesses of all sizes and can be applied to residential or individual needs.

B. Greenhouse Gas Product Lifecycle

The Instep lifecycle assessment programme looks at the greenhouse gas emissions produced over the full lifecycle of a product using the recently published PAS 2050 Guidelines and dedicated software. This is a comprehensive programme with audit verification and labelling options.

C. Instep Sustainable Events Programme

The Instep Sustainable Events Programme (ISEP) helps events of any size understand their carbon footprint and enhance their sustainability on a wider scale. Using the British Standard 8901 we help to put in place sustainable management systems and can assess your events’ compliance.

We appreciate the fact that no business is the same and needs differ from one business to another. The Instep programme is tailored to each operation and may include common sources such as fuel and electricity consumption, refrigeration, waste and outsourced transport. Each report details greenhouse gas emissions over the last period, summarises resources use and gives guidance on reduction opportunities. Sustainable Events  

Attendees both national and international are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the events they attend. Many international artists, performers and musicians are voicing their wishes to participate in sustainable events.

With a strong scientific foundation backed by British Standard 8901 for sustainable event management, and the added experience of the Instep events team, the Instep Sustainable Events Programme (ISEP) offers sustainable solutions to any event. This enables you to maximise the credibility of both your event and your organisation.

The Instep Process

A carbon footprint measures the impact human activities have on Earth’s environment. It is expressed and measured in units of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). This process is used by individuals and organizations to conceptualise the very real problem of climate change.

Step1. Education. Understanding how climate change and environmental issues are relevant to your own situation is the first step towards overall sustainability.

Step 2. Evaluate. We evaluate the most suitable of the Instep programmes for your activity and if required visit your premises and identify key emission sources to include in your profile.

Step 3. Quantify. We calculate and measure your carbon emissions using scientific methods based on international standards accepted globally.

Step 4. Manage. We send you regular reports with summaries of activity and recommendations on reducing your emissions further.

Step 5. Action. We believe your individual action is the ultimate key to fighting climate change and we encourage taking action as much as possible. The primary purpose of our regular reports is for you to see, understand and reduce your footprint.

Step 6. Certification. On joining an Instep programme, members receive a Bronze participation certificate, which shows that you have taken the initiative to manage your carbon emissions. On completion of the programme Instep does a full reassessment of your carbon footprint and certifies your operation depending on the target achieved. We then discuss goals for the future and how we can work together to achieve these agreed goals. The core focus of the Instep programme is emission reduction. If you have achieved a reduction in your carbon profile, you will receive Silver certification. Members who reach their reduction target are awarded Gold certification.

Burnt Oringe is the only linen company in Hong Kong to be Green Certified, and the first company ever in Hong Kong to receive the prestigious "Green Seal" from the International Institute of Green Business (please see the Press Release on our Blog).

Thriugh the production, an effort to spend valuable time and resources on preventing/avaoiding rice husk from being burnt, reducing the pollution issue, technology and other areas which are related. 45 Billions pairs of the disposable chopsticks are used in globally per annum.
