FAQ

1. What is Sustainability?

Sustainability refers to the potential longevity of vital human ecological support systems, such as the planet's climatic system, systems of agriculture, industry, forestry, and fisheries, and human communities in general and the various systems on which they depend.  In other words, it is long human ecological systems can be expected to be usefully productive.

2.What is a Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is a "measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide"[1] It is useful for individuals and organizations to conceptualize their personal (or organizational) impact in contributing to global warming. A carbon footprint can be seen as a subset of earlier uses of the concept of ecological footprints, an ecological footprint being the greater impact of many carbon foot prints.

3.What is it mean to be "Green"?

To be "Green" is to be actively conscious about the preservation of the world around us. To be "Green" is to live a lifestyle that sustains rather than depletes natural resources. In order to be "Green", one can use less water, use less electricity, finding alternatives to pesticides, harmful chemicals and pollution caused by manufacturing. To use organic and recycled products, shopping bags as well as products that are bio-degradable are all considered "Green".

Unfortunately, a lot of companies are "Greenwashing" their products to make customers think they are making a significant difference in terms of sustainability, but in fact do less than the bare minimum which makes hardly if any difference at all.

4.How do I know how "Green" my actions are?

Every little "Green" action you perform counts towards the bigger picture. In terms of the products you buy or the companies you deal with, research needs to be taken in order to ascertain if the companies corporate social responsibility are properly supportive of the environment.

Companies, such as Historic Futures provide a traceability function which allows consumers to see exactly where certain products come from and how "Green" or not "Green" these products are.

With regard to companies, the more environmentally friendly one is, the more customers will begin to trust you. There are major global trends that either give companies the opportunity to change certain aspects of their processes and gain a strategic advantage or pose a serious threat to those who don't want to change.
